* This question is asking a U.S. Presidential candidate
How much experience do you have working with “U.S. Treasury”.. “E.P.A.” ..
“Nuclear Regulatory Agency”?
I trust everyone understands the analogies. No. I have not worked in a casino, but I have managed, owned, and operated profitable commercial businesses in the public sector. Truth be, the Shawnee Chief or B.C., are not overly involved with the “day to day” operations at Golden Mesa Casino. The tribe has contracted with Global Gaming Solutions to manage and operate the casino. The proceeds from the casino are appropriated through pre determined allocations as determined by the B.C. It should be stated that the Indian gaming industry is highly regulated and involves a great amount of oversight by the federal, state, local, and tribal government. Particularly by the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC). Global Gaming Solutions manages a great number of casinos throughout the greater United States. The tribe also employs experienced professional advisors, management, and support staff. By doing so we further insure high quality service and entertainment for our patrons. The Shawnee tribe citizens can rest assured that Golden Mesa Casino will always be managed professionally, and receive the respect and attention from my administration that it warrants. It should be noted that it is my belief that we must do a better job creating additional revenue sources ASAP. At the moment it appears that the Shawnee have all of their “eggs in one basket” and that is not a sound recipe for the future growth of the tribe
I have already begun dialogue with other tribal governments and important officials from surrounding states. It is important that the Shawnee tribe is well represented in national, state, local, and tribal affairs. I will always work for the betterment of our sovereign nation, and will pursue legislation at the federal, state, and local level that “further” the cause of the Shawnee tribe. Our current leadership would have us believe, introducing a bill that never made it to a committee, and lacks substantial support from the legislative body, at an approximate cost of $1,000,000.00 annually, is some great accomplishment. I’m sure we can all agree. The current leadership and their attorney buddy’s, along with the lobbyist’s that receive tribal dollars, won’t mind taking Shawnee money forever.. and ever... and ever.
* The U.S. Supreme Court has recently upheld the constitutionality of The Indian Child Welfare Act. I will always support and uphold the pursuit of placing Indian children with Indian families when all things are reasonably equal. I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. There are considerations to be measured, given not all cases are the same
My administration will actively pursue and respect the process of repatriation of these remains, and sacred artifacts on the national and state level. I have already visited Shawnee Indian Mission, aka Shawnee Manual Labor School located in Fairway KS in the Kansas City metro. We held productive discussions with the Mayor of Fairway, its City Administrator, and the Curator of the museum. The meeting included representatives of the K.C. Chiefs and Kansas Historical Society. The Greenfeather administration will always pursue upholding the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and the core beliefs that state, objects and remains must at all times be treated with dignity and respect. I will not disrespect potential gravesites of ancestors with speeches seeking their locations and return, while at the same time refusing Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) NO LESS THAN 3 TIMES when offered at no cost by reputable organizations. The current Chief’s concern for our ancestors begins and ends with his ego, and pocketbook. He “talks the talk” but sure don’t “walk the walk”
Just to clarify. Citizens have NOT been promised per cap payments. I have clearly stated that I am OPEN to discussions of the potential feasibility of such payments. It would be irresponsible of myself to promise anything without first seeing the books. I am speaking to a responsible study into the potential feasibility. Nothing that endangers our fiscal status. I do believe there is some misconception of what these payments are, and the purpose of such. We are not going to create a welfare state. First we would need to determine the potential feasibility, and source of funding, perhaps a safe percentage of gaming revenues. Second what criteria for Applications and or the guidelines. Example: Adults 18+ or ? .. Im sure you get the idea. Something along the lines ($500-1500 yearly) amounts similar to the COVID 19 federal funds received, if we can manage to do more safely then great. Our Shawnee families deserve all the help we can provide. I believe our ancestors that suffered so we might receive our sovereignty, would want us to take care of one another the best we can. This model allows for a large percentage of our members to have a little extra and use the funds on what is important to them. Basically, it comes down to what is important to our leadership. Big trips all over the country with large entourages, fancy political dinners in state capitals, large donations to politicians, big payoffs to attorneys, and fancy staff getaways or retreats. You be the judge of what you prefer. Its your choice this time. Payments to citizens is the same as providing service
*None. The current level of services provided by the Shawnee tribe are largely federally funded amounts that are at, or near, the basic levels we receive from the government. It would be my hope to expand services to citizens. The tribe is extremely “top heavy” in their budgeting practices and seems to find no issue with finding opportunities to hide the budget records from its citizens.
*No. I cannot personally reverse anything on my own. The B.C. would need to vote on such !
measures. I have stated that I would seek repeal of the Election Act, Ethics Act, and the !
Records Act. Due to the unethical nature of all 3 acts of legislation, and the obvious “conflict !
of interest” each one of them share. Some of the better aspects of the voting changes may!
be temporary casualties and could always be revisited if the B.C. wishes
